Anti-Wrinkle Creams July 4, 2009The anti wrinkle creams have many ingredients and mainly found is Retin-a.
The current emphasis on looking young and fit has resulted in an $80 billion dollar business for makers of cosmetics, both for men and women. Much of this cash flow is due to the production and sale of anti-wrinkle creams, touted as both preventatives and correctives. One need only walk down the ails of skin care products in any drug store to find shelves and shelves of anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products, offered by virtually every cosmetic and skin care company in the world.
The question becomes, then, do they work and, if so, how do they work? The answers lie in looking at the causes of wrinkles and then at the specific substances that research shows can prevent and/or reverse wrinkles.
All skin has a composite ingredient called collagen. Collagen is at its height when a baby is born. One need only to look at the smooth pink lovely plump skin on a baby to know that this is brand new skin full of all of nature’s marvelous ingredients to keep it beautiful. As we age, there is a gradual reduction in important skin substances, and collagen is one of these. As the levels of collagen decrease, because production of it slows down, people begin to see sagging and yes, those horrible lines around the eyes, mouth, and, in extreme cases, all over the face. Until recent years, it was thought that nothing short of plastic surgery could remedy wrinkles, and people have spend thousands of dollars on face lifts, collagen injections, botox, etc. in order to get rid of these ghastly things called wrinkles.
Medical science stepped up to the plate quite by accident. One of the first anti-wrinkle creams to hit the market, although originally only available by prescription, was Retin-a Cream. This cream was originally used for adult acne, with great success. When it was used to treat acne in wrinkled areas, however, it was discovered that the wrinkles began to dissipate along with the pimples. Thus, dermatologists began to prescribe it as an anti-wrinkle cream as well. Many people still use just Retin-a cream today, and it is an ingredient found in most anti-aging and anti-wrinkle cream today.
Research continued to discover what else might fight the signs of aging, primarily on the face. Among the ingredients found to be helpful are vitamins A, C, & E, alpha hydroxyl acid, collagen, and certain fruit acids. You will find one or several of these ingredients in most anti-wrinkle creams sold today.
Prices of anti-wrinkle creams vary from about $10 to as much as $100 for a 1-2 ounce jar. And, the important thing to remember is that, while most of these will have a positive effect on wrinkles, you must continue to use them or the aging conditions will return. This can get pretty expensive if you use one of the pricier creams. Good advice would be to begin with the lower priced products and work your way up until you achieve the results you want.
