There are many skin diseases that one may suffer from; and one of them is Rosacea. This is a skin disease that causes facial redness and inflammatory pustules. This is why this condition is usually mistaken for acne and often referred to as adult acne or acne Rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic condition that usually occurs in adults with fair skin and between the ages of 30 and 60. This is not a life threatening disease; however if left untreated, it can affect your appearance and in the process, lower your self esteem as Rosacea is a progressive disease that tends to get worse over time.

In some people, Rosacea is a cyclic disease that flares up for a few weeks to months, wherein the signs and symptoms lessen for a short period of time. Then again Rosacea tends to flare up again. Sometimes Rosacea is also mistaken for other skin problems like skin allergy or eczema. It is only after a proper diagnosis that it is possible to treat Rosacea.

Besides taking treatment to cure Rosacea, it is also necessary to maintain a good skin care routine. The best thing you could do to control Rosacea lies in minimizing your exposure to the elements that aggravate a flare up. Different people find different factors that cause Rosacea; it is up to you to find out by studying your body and face what factors aggravate your Rosacea condition. Maintain a list of all the flare up triggers in you so that you find it easier for you to control its symptoms. If you need help in finding out what triggers Rosacea in you, you could check the Internet for information on Rosacea triggers. You can then identify the factors that tend to aggravate Rosacea in you.

There are some common precautions all the sufferers from Rosacea can do to prevent flare ups. Wearing sunscreen that has a sun protection factor of 15 or higher is effective in protecting the face from the sun, which can aggravate Rosacea. Make it a point to protect your face with a ski mask or scarf in the winter so that there is no flare up because of the cold. When suffering from Rosacea, it is important that you don't irritate the skin on your face touching or rubbing it too much.

When using facial products, avoid using products that constitute alcohol or other skin irritants. If you have a habit of using moisturizers on your face, it is better to apply it only after your topical mediation has dried. Products labeled noncomedogenic are the best products for people suffering from Rosacea as it does not clog your oil and sweat glands as much as other products. It proves to be better to avoid overheating your body, and to avoid alcohol as it tends to aggravate Rosacea. It is better to use green or yellow tinted pre foundation creams and powders when wearing make up as these creams are designed to counter skin redness.

It is better to check with the physician to find out if the skin care routine you follow is compatible with your Rosacea condition. It is basically best to maintain a gentle skin care routine where you clean your face using a mild and non abrasive cleanser. Then the face has to be rinsed with lukewarm water, and not hot water, and then blotted with a thick cotton towel. You should never pull, tug or use a rough washcloth when suffering from Rosacea. Non-irritating skin care products are the best products for patients of Rosacea to use. You have to choose products which are soap free, fragrance free and oil free for minimum aggravation from the product. You have to remember to let your face air dry for a few minutes before you apply any topical medication to your face. Only after the medication has soaked in the face for about five or ten minutes should you use other makeup or skin care products.

Skin care products having antioxidants are the most effective products for decreasing the free radicals in the body, and thus reduce the inflammation in Rosacea. When choosing sunscreens of SPF 15 or higher for your face, it is important that you experiment with numerous sunscreens before finding the best one which will not aggravate your Rosacea symptoms. When applying sunscreen, apply it often and liberally to all exposed portions when outdoors, during the summer or winter. The pharmacist is the best person to approach for additional information on sunscreens.

Rosacea is a skin condition that is noted for dryness that tends to upset the protective barrier of your facial skin. However, when suffering from Rosacea it is possible to restore the moisture in your skin without much irritation. All that has to be done is to apply some long lasting moisturizer that is water based, and found in a cream or lotion form. However, ensure that the product does not have any fragrances or lanolin. You get better results in skin care for Rosacea if you cleanse and moisturize your face in the morning and before bedtime.

Making a habit of drinking lots of water helps in maintaining skin when suffering from Rosacea. This is because water tends to provide some hydration to the body and skin which in turn is what Rosacea needs. If you use indoor heating, your skin tends to dry up quickly. So in a bid to avoid dryness, install and use a humidifier which will help counter-effect the drying effects of the heater.

Don't take long baths and never use steaming hot water. Lukewarm water is the best temperature for the water of people suffering from Rosacea. Use only mild cleansers and astringents and avoid harsh ones as these tend to over dry the skin. It may also induce redness and stinging in the skin. When shaving, it proves to be better to use an electric shaver than a blade. This is because the blade may only cause further irritation to the condition. However, replace the blade regularly to avoid scraping.

Don't use skin care products containing witch hazel, peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus oil, salicylic acid or clove oil. These ingredients aggravate the symptoms of Rosacea. Cotton, silk, hemp and linen are the best fabrics for you to choose as they are soft, non-irritating and breathable. Wool should not be used by people suffering from Rosacea.

So it can be seen that along with medication for Rosacea, it is very important that you also make it a habit of maintaining a regular skin care routine. This works hand in hand with the medication and provides relief from the symptoms of Rosacea.
