Ovaries are part of the female reproductive system.
The ovaries are responsible for producing eggs and female hormones. Cysts are those sacs in the body, and they are filled with liquid. There are various types of cysts that can form in the ovaries. Some cysts are formed during the menstruation, and they are called functional cysts.
This is the most common form of cysts in ovaries. Every month the ovaries will form cysts and hold eggs. These eggs travel to the uterus for fertilization during menstruation. Sometimes, during a functional cyst, the sac holding the eggs fail to open, and the eggs keep growing in it.
This cyst is called the follicular cyst. Most of the time, this cyst will not develop any further after one or two months.
But in the case that the cyst keeps developing and the sac does not break open, this is called a luteum cyst. This sac will not break, but after the egg releases, it will get closed again.
Sometimes, fluids can be formed inside the sac, and it is most likely to grow to a size of four inches, and also bleed and cause pain. This cyst too will go away after few weeks. There are several other types of cysts in the ovaries. The formation of ovarian cysts will have certain symptoms, like weight gain and pain in the abdomen.
There is a cyst that forms in the ovary, when the tissue from the uterus grows outside of it, and begins to form in the ovary. This is most likely to develop during a problem of endometriomas. Normally women with this disorder, have pain during sexual intercourse and menstruation.
Sometimes cells outside the ovary, lead to the formation of ovarian cysts. These cysts grow to a large size, and cause pain. They might also be filled with some gel or other fluid. This is called the cystadenomas.
There are also cysts called dermoid cysts. In this type of cyst, the cells of the ovary produce a lot of tissues, and this is painful too. Women may also experience abnormal bleeding during menstruation.
