Scalp Acne February 3, 2012
Scalp acne, is one of the mildest and also one of the most common problems amongst the population. Quite a number of people suffer from scalp acne without ever realizing it. When we say acne, the first impression one would have is on the face, chest, arms or back, but acne can be found on the scalp and other areas of the body as well.
Scalp acne is an irritating condition that develops when the scalp becomes more oily than common, this generally happens when you do not wash your hair regularly after applying oil on the scalp or this can form when you use hair products which are excessively oily.
Scalp acne can be a real pain as it is constantly irritates your head and scalp acne can be very irritated and therefore makes it very complex for those people who want to leave it without any help. In its initial form, the pimples are crusty, small and they are more painful. They generally appear at the hairline and on the upper forehead.
Acne necrotica miliaris is considered to be the more severe form of scalp acne, which is described by highly reddened bigger papules with black-colored outside. This is one of the rarest of the rare forms of acne that can leave you scarred such as resulting from the Chicken Pox. There is another rigorous form of scalp acne that mainly affects adult American-African men more, but it can affect anybody, in spite of sex, race or color. This exceptional condition is displayed by a combination of smaller pustules and large cysts and papules, which can grow very large.
In general, scalp acne is a very gentle form of acne and it can be treated similar to other types of acne with the use of antibiotics etc. Try to maintain the acne affected area very clean and dust free with the use of a product that does contain salicylic acid, one should remember before using these products that they can cause extreme dryness, so use this product only on acne affected areas. For better usage, you can apply with the help of a cotton or wool ball.
Oily hair is a causal factor to scalp acne, using particular shampoo that has been specially prepared for oily hair. It has been found that hair care products that have been designed to treat seborrhea can be definitely used in treating scalp acne with a reasonable degree of success. You should never try to treat more severe forms of this acne without consulting your dermatologist. Always try to avoid products that contain benzoyl peroxide for the treatment of scalp acne because when peroxide comes into contact with hair, it can change the hair color and result in a not so good-looking hair. People who have chemically dyed their hair are the people who are most vulnerable when their hair gets in contact with peroxide.
Overall, scalp acne can be treated as a mild form of acne and this can be treated very easily, but you should never neglect the scalp acne as it could turn nasty very fast, but in case it becomes worse please consult your dermatologist or the doctor.
