About Acne February 3, 2012
Acne is skin condition that is characterized by the blackheads, whiteheads, and "zits" or inflamed red pimples. It is also known by the name of Acne vulgaris, Pimples, Cystic acne or Zits.
This occurs mainly when tiny holes present on surface of skin called pores get clogged. Each of these pores is opening to canal called as follicle, which contains hair and oil gland. Normally, this oil gland helps to keep skin lubricated and also help in removing old skin cells. When these glands produce excess of oil then the pores become blocked further accumulating dirt, bacteria and debris. The blockage is also called as plug or comedone.
The top of this plug may be a white (whitehead) or a dark (blackhead). If it ruptures then the material inside this including oil and the bacteria can spread to surrounding area and can cause inflammatory reaction. If this inflammation is deep into your skin then the pimples may become enlarge to form a firm, painful cysts.
Acne commonly affects on the shoulders and the face but can also occur on trunk, legs, buttocks and arms.
Acne is a lot more common in the teenagers, but can happen at any age and even to an infant. Roughly 3 out of 4 teenagers suffer from acne although its intensity can vary. It is probably caused by the hormonal changes that do stimulate oil production. This problem affects both male and female with equal intensity.
Acne tends to even run in the family and can also be triggered by:
- Oily or Greasy cosmetic and also the hair products
- Hormonal changes that are related to pregnancy, menstrual periods, stress or birth control pills.
- High levels of sweating and humidity
- Certain drugs (like testosterone, steroids, phenytoin and estrogen)
Lot of people use to believe that nuts, chocolate and some other foods can cause acne but this does not looks to be true.
Few symptoms of the acne are:

- Shampoo your hair every day especially if they are oily. Comb or pull the hair back in order to keep them out of your own face. One should also avoid tight headbands.
- One should not try to squeeze, pick, scratch, or rub pimples even though it may be tempting the person to do so as it may lead to the scarring and also skin infections.
