Acne Nodules
July 27, 2008

There are many types of acne and all of them are not good to look at. Acne can be a real nuisance, especially it if is all over the face. Besides what is commonly known as pimples, it would be better if you would know more about acne nodules, so that you can take precautions at the very first sight of these nodules.

There are different types of Acne nodules, which very much resemble a whitehead, black head, nodules, pustules and the cysts. These acne nodules start to form when the pores on the skin are clogged with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria, thereby causing nodules to burst open and lead to the inflammation and formation of pus in the surrounding tissue. These lesions if left uncared for would cause long-term scarring. If treatment is given in time, these lesions can minimize or prevent the subsequent side effects.

Acne grows in stages and if we allow the acne nodules to grow up to the third stage, then it may burst and also leave permanent scars on your face. So, it is important to understand how acne can be stopped from growing up to second or third stage, it is important that you should not allow acne to reach the third stage and show it to a dermatologist and get it treated.

These nodules can be treated with oral antibiotics such as Tetracycline, Minocycline, Doxycycline, or Erythromycin. The other option would be to go for acne surgery by a dermatologist. This is done by first gently flushing the nodule with dilute cortisone through the drained cyst or nodule. These two procedures usually produce a resolution of the lesion within a period of 2 to 3 days.

In cases where these treatments have not worked for several weeks or months, oral Accutane can be discussed with the patient. Accutane should not be taken by pregnant women or women who are contemplating pregnancy and should be used selectively. Each of these medications has their own advantages and side effects. It becomes absolutely imperative that the relevant issues be discussed threadbare with their dermatologist.

Acne nodules are one of most difficult to treat and the more severe acne nodules become, the more difficult it would be treat them and the more time it would take to heal.

Some acne nodules can take up to three months before they completely disappear, but they can leave your face scarred. You should never pop the lesion at any cost because they can cause serious skin damage and if it gets infected, it would take a real long time to heal down.

For the above forms of acne, it is always recommended that you consult a reputed dermatologist and get treated to cure the acne quickly but also to stop the scarring as much as possible. One should always keep in mind that acne may be healed but scars will remain there for a lifetime. So, it is always advisable to get it cured at an early stage to prevent inflammation and stop scarring.
