Acne Genes
July 20, 2008

Acne is a peculiar type of disaster faced by young people which causes because of the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands. This disorder is commonly found in young adults and adolescents. In most people, this problem goes away by the time they reach their 30's. Sometimes people may face this problem even in their 40's and 50's continue to have this skin problem. Though this disorder does not harm your life but it is a serious problem which should be taken care immediately when it arises. Emotional distress is considered to be the main cause of this disorder. Acne when it is severe, it leads to permanent scarring. It cannot be cured permanently but there are some treatment options to clear the acne, first of all when you are under treatment see that no new lesions are formed.

The outcomes that came out of research do not fully provide all the details needed by the acne sufferers. People who got affected with this problem at one point or another must take active steps to overcome it.

The bacterium, which contributes to acne and which is being popularly believed by the researchers is Propionibacterium acnes. It is a slow-growing bacterium identified by German scientists by mapping its entire genome. Acne can be treated in two forms: topical and oral medications. Identifying all the acne genes related to this skin disorder can improve treatment dramatically. Many acne sufferers find relief and a reduction in acne but only after trying multiple treatments for over several months. Identifying so-called acne genes can drastically decrease the length of time required for acne to resolve completely.

By understanding the immunohistochemistry techniques, researchers found 3 types of genes which are involved in the redness of acne expressed in the form of a protein level. Among all the three, one specific gene matrix metalloproteinase 1, however, has totally proved to be prudent. The researchers found out that this skin sample was actually an acne lesion when observed with a microscope. But this study was not sufficient and further re-enhancement took place to see if MMP-1 can have direct impact in curing the acne disorder in people.

Until more treatments are developed based on the research, it is important to still continue whatever methods of treatment work for you. If you experience any side effects from one particular treatment, visit your dermatologist and inform him about your condition. One or the other day the information that scientists have discovered about acne genes can provide acne sufferers with more immediate and effective treatments.

Some scientists also believe that in the development of acne, the immune system is also involved. During the adolescence age, teens tend to produce more oil. Bacteria will feed off this excess oil. Dermatologists who take care of this disorder really recommend trying an acne treatment for two months before switching to something else. The new research relating to acne genes is groundbreaking and has the potential to be very beneficial for all the acne sufferers.
