Acne Cyst Treatment: Medicine and Methodology
July 20, 2008

The treatment of acne cysts is very similar to the treatment used for the typical acne lesions. There are several options including cleaning your face regularly to help prevent acne cysts from developing to antibiotics and creams to treat cystic acne. There is also several vitamins you can take to improve you cystic acne.

Clear Skin Methodology

The best place to start with you acne cyst treatment is to clean your skin. This is often the standard method of prevention and treatment for all other forms of acne. Most of the time this is a specific regimen that has results in a noticeable diminishment of acne. For cystic acne the primarily ingredient should always be benzoyl peroxide. Always remember to start with a low dose until you know how your skin will react and then gradually increase the dose until you find the appropriate amount for you skin.

You will also need to find a good over the counter cleanser for your cystic acne treatment. The cleanser you purchase should be mild and not prone to drying out the skin too much. You need to leave some oils on your skin otherwise you will end up with other skin problems. Scientists and dermatologist have stated that you shouldn’t use the standard soap bath as a cleanser.

Next in line for acne cyst treatment is applying a face moisturizer. You should apply this every day so you can counteract the reddening and drying that is caused by benzoyl peroxide. You can often use a sunscreen as a moisturizer. A good option is Eucerin Skin Renewal which prevents the skin from flaking. However, you should wait two or three weeks after you’ve started using benzoyl peroxide to apply this product since it contains lactic acid which can sting your skin if it is used with benzoyl peroxide.

Benzoyl Peroxide

One of the most popular cream or gels that is used to treat all form of acne is benzoyl peroxide. You should use it in a two and half percent solution or less until you skin is used to it. Anything about five percent should not be used unless directed by a doctor. You should start out applying the cream or gel once a day if you have sensitive skin and then work your way up to two a day applications.

If you skin becomes crusty or you develop any other signs of an allergic reaction to benzoyl peroxide then you should discontinue use of the product. Side effects are extremely rare with benzoyl peroxide but they can happen so be on the lookout for symptoms.

Isotretinoin

If you have a severe nodular or cystic acne then you may need to be treated by a dermatologist. If your cystic acne is severe then they prescribe isotretinoin otherwise known as Accutane. thisi s a retinoid that is taken orally once or twice a day for sixteen to twenty weeks. It helps greatly reduce the size of your oil glands so that less oil is produced on your skin. As a result this decreases the amount of bacteria growth.

Vitamins and Minerals

Zinc is one of the most important minerals that you can take to regulate the activity of your oil glands which can lead to cystic acne. You should take an extra thirty to fifty mg per day of Zinc. Vitamin B5 is another good ingredient for decreasing oil production. Five to ten grams of Vitamin B5 can be added to your diet. As with any medicines, vitamins and minerals should be taken carefully and you should always be on the lookout for toxic buildup. If you are unsure what symptoms my be side effects or whether or not you are taking the right dose then you should discuss the issue with your doctor before continuing the use of any vitamins or minerals.
