Laser Treatment for Acne Scars March 11, 2010
Laser treatment for acne scars is a method that millions are starting to use for acne scar removal. The reason is because many are starting to find that the over the counter medications at the local drug store are not providing enough help in reducing acne scars. Many people who start to use laser treatments are those who have tried several products and still cannot find a good method to get rid of their acne scars. For some individuals you may even be able to use laser treatment to stop your acne for good.
How Laser Treatment Works
Laser treatment works just like it sounds. A technician uses a very powerful and small point laser to trigger the acne effectively. Laser treatment is done because the acne is usually caused by the bodies over production of oils in the skin. The laser penetrates under the skin to get at these glands and destroy the oils that cause acne. This may seem like a harsh and painful treatment, but acne laser treatment is virtually painless. In addition, there are no medical side effects to having these glands destroyed. After these glands stop producing oils the bacteria that causes acne cannot grow under the skin. This effectively stops or decreases the number of acne breakouts you suffer from.
One important fact to know is that any acne treatments, including laser treatments will usually not cure the acne that is already on your body or face. To clear up the existing breakouts you will need to use antibiotics or other forms of treatment. However, as the oil production slows or stops all together then you will have fewer acne breakouts and this will help the existing acne to heal over time.
Scar Treatment
If you are considering acne laser treatment then another option is one that uses the lasers to remove the acne scars. In this methods the powerful laser is used to remove the top layer of skin near and on the scar. New skin will then grow back. This new skin is healthy and the scars will either be gone or they will not be as visible as they were to begin with. Acne scar laser removal is becoming one of the more popular ways of getting rid of acne scars.
Whether using lasers for treatment or scar removal is can be very effective. However, several treatments will usually need to be done. As with any medical treatment there are several drawbacks that should be considered.
Disadvantages of Laser Treatment
It is difficult to tell after just one treatment whether or not it is enough to take care of your acne. You will often have to wait and see if excess oil continues to be produced by the glands and if the bacteria continues to grow. If you find out that the acne condition still exists or that the scar haven’t been completely treated then you will have to go back in for several more treatment before you can have the results you desire.
Another drawback is the fact that laser treatments can be expensive. Depending on the experience of the person providing the treatment and the quality of the facilities your cost will increase. So it is always best to consider this, especially since you will often need more than just a single treatment.
Benefits of Laser Treatment
While laser treatment is expensive the cost should be compared to the price of other forms of treatment. The expense of ointments and lotions that will only yield small results over a long period of time can be more expensive than the faster and more effective results you gain from laser treatment. Be sure to compare the costs of both before making your decision.
Laser treatment is a method for not only removing your scars, but also for treating your acne and preventing it from happening again. This way you are treating two problems with one treatment rather than using two methods of treatment.
