Research studies have shown that the hormones present in the birth control pills prevent acne from forming. It has been noted that any birth control pill can be effective and there is brand distinction. So, the birth control pills can be used for the treatment of acne irrespective of the brand name. But the duration for the pills to work for the prevention of acne is longer and you have to have a lot of patience. Some times, it may take even several months for the birth control pills to show some result, but because of its low dosage these might not be as effective as an original birth control pill.
To take birth control pills for the prevention of pregnancy or the treatment of acne is a personal decision, which you have make. You should also be aware of the side effects of taking birth control pills like vaginal bleeding, fluid retention, melasma and depression. These pills also present some serious risks including heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and even breast cancer.
So, even though there may be some benefit by taking birth control pills for the acne but you have weigh your own decision depending on the pros and cons of taking such a pill. If you are thinking that it would work both ways, like stopping the pregnancy and be a potent drug for acne, then you might be mistaken because the pills is of very low dosage and may not actually work as an effective birth control pill.
