Acne Prone Skin
September 2, 2010

Acne may have started on your face in teen years, that time when age and hormones meet to cause those unpleasant breakouts or you may have begun experiencing acne problems in your adult years. Unfortunately, finding an effective skin care treatment for acne-prone skin can be somewhat frustrating experience. But acne can be controlled, and it is very important that you understand what type of acne you have and search for treatment as soon as possible to avoid scarring. The best way to treat your acne problems is to be informed, aware, and positive.

Gently cleanse your Acne-prone skin to avoid severe problems. These are few tips to clean your acne prone skin:

  • Limit washing your face to twice a day and after perspiring. Once in the morning and once at night as well as after covered with sweat heavily should be the limit. Perspiration, particularly when wearing a hat or helmet, can make acne worse, so the skin should be gently cleansed as quickly as possible after perspiring.
  • Use a mild and non-abrasive cleanser. Wash the face and other acne-prone areas with a gentle and non-abrasive cleanser, which does not contain any alcohol.
  • Use your fingertips in order to apply the cleanser and wash your face. This process reduces skin irritation. Using a washcloth, mesh sponge, or anything else can irritate the skin and cause more breakouts.
  • Do not scrub your acne prone skin. Generally scrubbing cleans the skin but does not clear acne problems. In fact, scrubbing irritates the skin and can make your acne problem worse. And also makes the acne condition harder to treat.
  • Wash your face with lukewarm water and soap then pat dry. Make sure that thoroughly rinse away the cleanser with lukewarm, not very hot, water. A skin cleanser will do as well and do it once or twice a day.
  • Daily use of shampoo is also advisable since pimples often appear on the forehead. If you have an oily hair, wash it daily with shampoo and keep it off your face as much as possible. Try to avoid using hair products with oil like pomades and gels.

Choose an over-the-counter drug, which contains Benzyl Peroxide. This is a common component, which helps to dissolve the source of the plugged oil duct and degenerates the bacteria causing the infection. Be cautious of medications, which contain sulfur and resorcinol as they may irritate your skin. However it has been said that when properly applied over infected part, they may unplug oil glands.

Acne prone, sensitive skin can be irritated by using these products such as astringents, skin toners, rubbing alcohol, facial masks, and even certain hair care products. You should clean your face using a soft touch, taking care to never rub or even scrub the skin on your face. The key to healthy and clear skin is to choose a skin care regimen, which is right for your skin and the condition that you have.
