Acne is a most basic type of disorder of pilosebaceous unit, which is also commonly known as pore or hair follicle. American Academy of Dermatology has revealed that it is most common type of skin disorder that people of United States of America are affected by.
A common type of acne also called as Acne vulgaris of the skin is classified as chronic inflammatory disease. This can be identified with the presence of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples of “zits”. The main parts of the body which are commonly affected by this disease are upper arms, back, chest, and neck and face while other parts of the body are rarely affected by this. The intensity of this disease varies from very extremely severe to very mild.
This disease can effect a person of any age group be it a child or a teen or even adult. It is although more common in people of age group of 12 to 24. This disease is so common that 3 out of 4 teens do experience this problem. This disease effects equally to both male and female. It can even affect babies and can be in a form of adult onset acne breakout over the whole face in adults.
Acne outbreaks can get triggered due to over secretion of sebaceous glands. This disease occurs when dead skin cells and oil get trapped within hair follicle leading to creation of plugs within pore. This plug is called comedone.
If the plug progresses and allows the bacteria to invade them the follicle wall can rupture and create an inflammation with redness. This can vary with the severity which depends on damage to follicle wall and also amount of the infection present. Severe cases may lead to cysts.
Acne appears during the puberty, which is when there is surge of androgen hormone within the body as these hormones stimulates the sebaceous glands, which create oilier complexion that is prone to breakouts. This is also been agreed with most of the dermatologist. This may also occur during pregnancy, perimenopause, menstruation and menopause.
This can also be the result of the over use of skin care or other hair care products, oily cosmetics or even certain type of drugs that actually raises the chances of acne.
This is a very complex problem and there is no particular cure for this problem. Researchers are learning about it day by day. One can still go for other treatment options that are available for those who are suffering from it. These treatments take lot of patience and time to show its affect. Almost all the cases can be controlled and treated successfully with 100% success.
Most of these treatments can be performed at home only. Mild cases can be easily treated with very good skin care, daily. This may include washing the face with good soap daily and at least thrice a day so that there is no bacteria formation. One can also go to one’s dermatologist for the proper course of action to cure this problem.
